Listed as World Heritage Site by Unesco, and now one of the new seven wonders of the world, Chichen Itza ancient capital of the Mayan culture, is an archaeological site located east of the state of Yucatan, 120 km. the city of Merida, on the road Vol. 180 bound for Cancun.
The party today can be accessed, consists of 17 buildings, framed by two beautiful cenotes (natural water wells, fed by rainwater filtered through the walls of limestone).

The Pyramid of Kukulkán or El Castillo

Conceived as a great solar calendar, why in each of its four sides presented 91 steps, which, coupled with the rungs of his platform added 365 bleachers, a figure which coincides with the days of the solar year.
At the top of the pyramid, is the temple of Kukulkán, the Sun God. In its interior there are figures of jaguars, a Chac Mool, the messenger of the gods, and the jaguar throne adorned Vista.

Two times per year, on March 21 and September 23, the Temple of Kukulcan and entertainment scene is in itself, since in these days of spring and autumn equinox respectively, there is a shadow falling slowly over the balustrade of a staircase north of castle, until one of two huge heads of the base.
The projection of the sun on Castle, which altogether form seven isosceles triangles during these dates on which day and night lasts exactly the same time, it is not any image, because according to tradition Maya is Kukulcán same declining to fertilize the soil .

The cenotes (Mayan dzonot, pit or hole) deposits are freshwater extremely common throughout the Yucatan Peninsula. The cenotes are fed by seepage of water through their walls; sometimes found in caves, and as many as in the case of the Sacred Cenote of Chichen Itza which has a diameter of 65 meters and a depth of 35, are located open pit.
From the mouth of the cenote was throwing valuable offerings, consisting of luxurious samples of textiles and basketry, as well as copper ornaments with beautiful jade applications. On the other hand, have found human remains also showing what is presumed are traces of violence, this suggests that occasionally, our fellow human beings were also presented as an offering to Chac.

The motto of "Caracol" of this building, becomes interesting in its interior design, since consists of concentric circles and spirals that had functions and rituals for observing the stars. However the fact that the chamber astronomical observation was almost completely collapsed, the rest of the building speaks for itself and indicates clearly, according to archaeologists, what was the important objective of this construction.
If the Maya needed to know what was the right time for planting or harvest, echaba hand knowledge thrown by the Centre. Such data were derived from the position of the moon, sun and other celestial stars, when their location was appropriate, it also made a big ceremony, in keeping with the importance of agriculture for all peoples prehispánicos.
